Restorative Landscape Project

Over the next month or two, you’re going to see a lot of plants going into the ground at the library. It may not look like much at first, but we’re starting an exciting new project to transform our outdoor space!

Working with Earthcraft Design, a permaculture-steeped landscape design company based in Alstead, we’ll be planting in many different areas of the library grounds. We’ll be planting groups of plants that are beautiful, food-producing, ecologically beneficial, and work well together. They’ll help to shade and define some of our favorite outdoor areas around the library, including the summer concert area and the new Rev. War monument area. There will be fun new child-oriented spaces, and plants with deep cultural significance in New England. Some of these spaces will change quickly, and some will take years as we wait for perennials to establish and trees to grow.

More info about the plan is available at the library. Marty Castriotta of Earthcraft will be our guest speaker at the June 10th Friends Tea, which will be a great opportunity to learn more about permaculture, regenerative design, and the unique way we’re doing it here at the library!
